[5] Web Design Facts

Today we’re going to be talking about some of the most popular web design facts out there.

Website creation, just like almost anything nowadays, might seem easy but we assure you it’s not an easy task. In order to make it professional, you’ll need to be able to see beyond what’s obvious.

Not many people actually think about the bolts and nuts of a website. Most of them, type in the domain name, click enter and that’s it… they see the end result, without knowing the big picture.

Curious to know what’s behind the scenes? If so, let’s review some of the web design facts that will blow your mind.

< 1 > Each browser displays your website differently

Some of the most popular browsers.

Wait, what?!

The truth is that if you visit a particular website using Google Chrome, there’s a good chance that you get a completely different experience from what you would have gotten using Safari or IE.

Haven’t noticed? Well, that’s so because the web designer that’s associated with that project (website) knows what they are doing. It takes a lot of effort and thought (so to speak) to make sure your website looks great on all browsers.

But why’s that happening?

The answer to this question is closely related to how browsers work. Each browser has its own algorithm that analyzes your website code and displays it onto the screen.

Some browsers would read your website code and display certain things onto the screen, whereas some browsers might not even “read” your code. That makes website creation a bit complicated and that is why we suggest contacting someone that knows what they’re doing.

That’s where pro web designers come into play.

Experienced web designers are aware of programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Angular 6+ and others. They are also aware of known issues when it comes to browsers.

It’s a web designer’s job to make sure your website looks great on all browsers, plus all features work as expected, no matter the browser.

A good web designer would either outsource the testing to a QA or test the website himself to make sure all’s perfect.

< 2 > Your website “is aging” faster than you think.

It’s a well-known fact that we are living in a rapidly-evolving world. In order to keep up with the latest trends, web designers constantly need to refresh their skills and knowledge.

New devices, new coding standards, and new algorithms come up every day and that’s challenging for every web developer/designer out there.

If your web designer cannot keep up with the latest web design trends, they won’t be in a position to keep your website up to date.

In this sense, if your website is 2 years old and it’s not being taken care of, it might be old already.

If you, by chance, would like to read some more on the redesign topic and more specifically, whether it’s time to redesign your website, feel free to head over to our redesign article.

< 3 > Templates? Not a good idea.

Many web designers out there are using templates, however, that’s not because templates are great but because they make the job easier for “the IT guys”…

Templates are never a good idea because all they do is set boundaries for your creativity.

End users are also using templates and that often results in bad experience in terms of “modifying stuff”.

If you are an IT guy (so to speak) and you rely solely on templates, keep in mind that there’s a good chance you go out of business soon. Nowadays, clients want custom solutions.

It’s a fact that templates consist of unnecessary code and elements that nobody would use…  like… ever. That would hurt your website performance big time.

Here’s another cool part when it comes to templates. You’d like to add a new feature… what a nice idea… but that almost never works out because you have no clue who wrote the code and how “well” the code was written.

In most cases, you are stuck with your template and that’s it… but what if your strategy evolves?

You’ll then need to go for an entirely new website because the template is not very much “modify-me-freely friendly”

The good old “template days” are gone. And we embraced this long time ago.

< 4 > Your website code could help you rank better on Google.

JavaScript code.

That’s the most important part of your website and we strongly recommend you to have someone who’s a PRO do it for you.

Imagine you had the best-looking website in the world but not having visitors. What would the point be?

Search engines are a great source of traffic for any website/web application, therefore, you’d better set up your website in a way that they would expect.

We have written an extensive article related to SEO Optimization that you might want to check.

In other words, it all begins with writing clean code, plus, be in compliance with the latest standards. That way, you could be sure that you have a solid foundation when it comes to your web site code in the eyes of Google (and other search engines).

< 5 > Responsive VS Mobile design

Responsive Design rocks!

Most end users have absolutely no clue what’s going on in the background when they open up a website via their mobile device.

There are two profound methods that you should know about.

Mobile and Responsive Design.

Mobile design is kind of limiting.

It is a separate version of your website that is intended to load up only if the device that’s requesting to “view” the website is of type “mobile”, meaning – tablet or smartphone.

There have been some kind of improvements lately, and by that, we mean the so-called Progressive Apps, like Super Progressive Web App.

Not always mobile design incorporates all features of a given website, though. Therefore, many people prefer the so-called “new standard” – the Responsive design.

Responsive Design is cool!

Responsive design has been around for quite some time.

It allows your website to “adapt” to the browser’s width and height dynamically. With the help of the abovementioned “adaptation”, your visitors get the same experience, no matter the device.

Responsive design does the trick for huge monitors and at the same time for smartphones. Your design remains ground-breaking all the time. Now, is that cool or what?

Conclusion

The truth is that web design can be complicated as hell and at the same time as easy as 1, 2, 3. Bottom line is that you need to have an eye for detail and trust someone who knows what they’re doing to do it for you (or at least help you).

We hope we managed to summarize 5 of the most popular web design facts in a way that’s entertaining.
